Day 3

Today I woke up at around 8 o’clock, which was a bit later than the days before. I think this has to do with the fact that I have recovered from my jet lag. I made myself some breakfast, which consisted of cornflakes and bread. My brother was already downstairs and he told me that The Big Bang Theory could be seen on Netflix, which was a surprise to me. After breakfast we watched a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

I ate some bread for lunch, while watching the Big Bang Theory again. When the two episodes and finished, I went out and practised the piano. After a few minutes I stopped, and started playing Fifa.

At around six o’clock dinner was ready. I ate a nice omelette.

Today was not hard, because my parents cooked a vegetarian meal and I was not confronted with the smell of meat.

Day 17

Today I woke up at 11 Am to go feed a cat I was babysitting. An hour later or so I headed back to my house to get my wallet to bring with me to my local usps office to, again, try to retrieve my usps package. It had finally arrived! Polaroid film for my SX-70. I happily biked home and at home I opened my package and inside were 3 polaroid film cartridges. I opened my SX-70 and put one in, snapped it shut and ____. Nothing, and nothing; no dark slide coming out, no WHRRRRRR noise, nothing. I ejected and inserted my cartridge 19 more times and nothing happened. Of course; if it isn’t my film not arriving, it’s my polaroid camera being broken. :,D

For lunch I drank a blueberry smoothie which tasted decent and for dinner I ate an amazing-tasting vegetarian alteration of a Portuguese dish called feijoada. Not that you actually know what it is but I just wanted you to try to pronunciate it in your head.

After that I worked some more on the site and finally got to make the promo for social media. That’s everything, goodnight.

Mid third week

I woke up at 2pm, after not being able to sleep until 5 am. I put an alarm to wake me up at 30 past 10, but no way I could wake up that early.

For breakfast I ate some toasted bread with some strawberry jam. I also drank some milk instead of coffee, because I should really lower the amount of coffee I drink. After breakfast and before dinner. Tiago asked me to go the gym, but I sorrow ass really didn’t want to go, so I skipped another gym session.

For dinner we ate vegetarian lasagna, which tasted amazing. I am pretty sure this was one of the best “healthy” meals I ate this summer break.

Day 2

Today I woke up around 7 am, and made myself breakfast. I ate some cornflakes, just like I did yesterday.

I went to my grandmother together with my mother and my brother. We went to the Grebbeberg and visited the memorial of the Dutch soldiers who fought there to protect our country in Word War II. It was very intimidating to see all those graves, especially when I saw at what age the soldiers died (Most of them died in their early 20s). In the guest room there were some old pictures of the soldiers and some equipment they had used.

Suddenly, it started to rain cats and dogs, so we decided to go and eat some lunch. We went to a Vandervalk Hotel to eat. I took an apple pie, which tasted really good. After we’d finished our delicious food we went to our car. On our way back to my grandma’s house, we drove a beautiful route through the countryside.

After we arrived at my grandmothers house, we talked a little bit before leaving for my home. We arrived at home at around half past 4. I went to my game console to play some Dirt Rally for around an hour. Then I ate some vegetarian Spaghetti. There were a lot of vegetables in the spaghetti which kind of replaced the meat, so it tasted good without it.

When dinner was finished I decided to watch some tv.

Today wasn’t too difficult, apart from the lunch. At lunch everyone ordered some meat which looked and smelled great, so the temptation was huge. At the end I stood my ground and ordered the apple pie, “to help the environment” I thought to myself.

Third Tuesday

Woke up at a staggering 10 pm, pretty good for my doing. I made this oatmeal porridge thing with some suger. I also drank some coffee but unfortunately put in the ice coffee cup, so it didn’t really taste good.

For my lucnh I just ate some bread with cheese. After lunch I played some basketball and took a shower.

After a refreshing shower we ate french fries and watched this lame as movie. In the evening I hung out with some friends.

I went to bed at 2pm, but before I fell asleep I watched some netflix :).

Finished Death Note

Today I was woken up by my alarm at 1 PM, I’d set the alarm so I could retrieve a package at my local usps office, the same package I’ve tried retrieving 3 times already, but his time it was open! They didn’t have my package though :,D.

After that I went home to watch the finale of Death Note; The finale was okay, I liked it, but it seemed like they’d made Light Yagami intensionally dumber so his failure would’ve been more believable. Light Yagami just beat L, and now, all of a sudden his successor, Near who’s like 12 years old shows up out of nowhere and beats him with some simple moves. What??? And then when Light’s finally cornered, he doesn’t try to make a run for it and write down the others’ names in the Death note. No! He just, out of nowhere, in the middle of the god damn room, with everyone looking at him, KNOWING that he is Kira, tries to ”secretely” write down someone’s name on a torn little piece of paper from the Death note (WHO NO ONE KNEW HE HAD) like no one’s looking. Then OBVIOUSLY, he gets shot; his blood soaks up almost the entire piece of paper, with just a little bit still left to write on. And then after like 30 seconds HE TRIES IT AGAIN. WHATT.

For a guy who’s aced every test since he left the womb, AND beat the best detective on the god damn planet; he sure is dumber than a fox when it comes to getting caught twice in the same snare. Then, after he tries the same dumb trick for the second time, he gets shot some more, only this time the bullets actually hit him in a fatal area. Then, when he’s laying there, on his seemed-to-be deathbed, this guy who works for him FINALLY decides it’s time to pull a stunt to redirect the others’ attention so Light can get away. His attention-grabbing stunt works. Light gets away -while, keep in mind, being shot like 4 TIMES IN THE CHEST. Then he finds a place to hide BUT WAIT, OH YEAH, his little torn piece of the Death note is totally bathed in blood and as a result of that, F$£%ING USELESS. Then, he dies because his shinigami wrote his name on his Death note, because yea, why not amIrite ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

From the beginning Light made a few dumb decisions which boosted the action-span in the series, which I understand; As a producer you don’t want your series to be boring. But this was just dumb.

Okay, so on to the food; Today I haven’t really eaten much. I woke up at like 1 PM, ate a bit of watermelon and drank some OJ. And wow I just remembered I haven’t had dinner yet. What’s wrong with me. But I’m not hungry so I’ll pass on that. Its 2:12 AM now and I’ll be heading off to bed soon.

Monday

I woke up at 11 pm, eventhough I had set an alarm for 9pm because our “cleaner” was coming. I wanted her to clean my bedroom to but was still asleep unfortunately.

I ate some buttered bread for breakfast, and of course drank some coffee. After breakfast I didn’t really do much besides finishing stranger things season 3. It had a decent ending, with a good opportunity for a season 4. I don’t know what series to watch now though.

For lunch I ate some, actually I didn’t eat anything for lunch. at 2pm I went out of the house, to get some snacks to eat while watching tje new episode of The100, 10/10 serie.

for dinner we ate this Turkish bread with vegetarian shawarma. I really liked it, besides the vegetarian shawarma, it was not too bad but I really didn’t taste anything like the real thing.

I went to bed at 1pm, but didn’t fall asleep until somewhere in between 3-4 am.

Day 1

I arrived at the airport after an exhausting 11 hour flight yesterday night. Since I don’t like movies and my phone died, there was very little to do on board the aircraft. After the flight I had to rush to catch the train which brought me to my hometown.

So this morning I woke up at around six o’clock in the morning, and I made myself some breakfast. It consisted of some milk and cornflakes. I was still very tired, due to the flight and the time difference. I was so tired that I went back to bed. I made myself some lunch (three slices of bread with Nutella). I went out for a walk In the early afternoon. During that walk I learned that basically nothing has changed in my village during the past weeks.

Later that day I went to my grandparents. They were glad that I arrived home safely. On my way back I ate some French fries at a gasoline station.

I went to bed the minute I came back. This was around 10 pm.

I guess the first day wasn’t too hard, although I was kind of jealous of my brother who ate a hamburger.

Day 15

Today I woke up by a friend of mine ringing my phone. I’d previously made plans with him to play some playstation at his house. I picked up the phone, headed to his location and then we biked to his house.

We played some Call of Duty: WW2, we were terrible in playing missions as Americans but seemed to do great playing as Nazis, so that’s something. After that we hopped into a 1v1 match and, eventhough I’d just waken up, I completely demolished him, absolutely obliterated, utterly destroyed. After a while it was just too depressing to witness him trying his pathetic best to win, so I just let him catch up to me and win to not hurt his feelings. If you’d ask him he may’ve recounted the experience differently though, but he’s very sensitive about the topic so I wouldn’t recommend actually believing in what he claims to be the truth.

At around 5 PM I headed home and made some lunch for myself; It was a similar dish to the one I had before -the one with the soy sauce, rice and egg but this time I put some on top of a cracker with butter and it tasted astonishingly good.

After that I hung out with another friend of mine and watched some Death Note afterwards; 3 episodes until the finale.

I’ve almost passed half the month and am a little proud of it. Good night for now.

Dinner: Double cheese & spring vegetable tart

Ingredients (for 8 people):

  • 500g block shortcrust pastry
  • plain flour, for dusting
  • 25g mature cheddar, finely grated
  • 200g asparagus spears, woody ends trimmed
  • 100g fresh podded or frozen peas
  • 2 eggs
  • 100g crème fraîche
  • 150g double cream
  • whole nutmeg, for grating
  • 100g watercress
  • 300g or 2 logs of soft, rindless goat’s cheese

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Roll the pastry out into a rectangle on a work surface lightly dusted with flour. Scatter over the cheese, fold the pastry in half and roll out again into a circle that fits a 25cm tart tin with an overhang. Chill for 20 mins. Meanwhile, cook the asparagus in boiling water for 3 mins, then drain and refresh under cold water. Cook the fresh peas the same way for a minute, or simply defrost the frozen peas.
  2. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Prick the base of the tart well with a fork, line with baking parchment and fill with baking beans. Bake the tart for 30 mins, remove the parchment and beans, prick again if it has puffed up, then bake for another 10-15 mins until biscuit brown.
  3. Meanwhile, beat the eggs in a bowl, add the crème fraîche and cream, season and add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. Scatter the peas and most of the watercress over the tart and crumble over half the goat’s cheese. Pour over the creamy egg mixture, then lay the asparagus spears on top. Finally, slice the remaining goat’s cheese and arrange on top, then bake for 25-30 mins until the custard is just set and the cheese is golden brown. Leave to cool in the tin, trim the edges of the pastry, then remove from the tin, scatter with the remaining watercress and serve cut into slices. Can be made up to a day ahead, leave out the fridge to keep the pastry crisp.
