Day 4

Woke up around 2 pm, feeling pretty crappy. Had a terrible sleepless night, but I was way too tired to even care. I just went by my day normally.

Unfortunately we ran out of protein, so I couldn’t make my self a protein shake before I went to the gym. So instead of a shake I just covered some bread with cheese and put it in the oven. Pretty basic but tastes fine. After breakfast I went to the local fitness centre with Tiago, who actually showed up this time, and another friend of mine. Today it was core, biceps and triceps day. Normally I like to get some extra calories throughout the day for this workout. But I wasn’t really feeling to spend any amount of time not on top my bed, so I just skipped that part.

We ate dinner pretty late, at around 8 pm. My mom prepared some easy leftover from yesterdays, some eggs, vegetables and a veggie burger for me. It was the same veggie burger as I ate before, pretty standard. It tasted alright, but I think I am going to cook something better tomorrow or the day after. I kinda don’t feel like eating the same thing over and over again.

I am finne watch some Netflix for now, and head off to bed. Will write again tomorrow 🙂

The fourth day

We are at day 4 already but I gotta say, my day didn’t start very smoothly. I had slept badly last night and I was still tired when I woke up this morning. So with a bad mood I started the day by making breakfast. For breakfast I had some bread, like usually, and some coffee cause I really needed that after having a short sleep.

Later that day I decided to go to a nearby city together with a friend of mine. We also had lunch there and I ordered a delicious pizza at a pizzeria. It had lots of cheese, vegetables and other things on it, they had enough vegetarian pizzas luckily so you can still enjoy eating fast food when you are vegetarian.

After I got back home in the evening, I had dinner. My mother made a couscous salad for us and it tasted very nice. She had added feta cheese and different sorts vegetables to it. I am still not craving for meat yet and am still fine without it so I will just go on like this. See you tomorrow.

The third time’s the harm

So today I woke up at around 10 AM. My friend spent the night at my house and since I had a doctor’s appointment at 11 I decided to wake him in none other way than blasting PEPE’s Shadilay through a bluetooth speaker I’d placed in his room. After he left I made myself some lunch; I wasn’t in the mood to make anything big so I just ended up smearing two pieces of bread with butter and adding some cheese on top. Still tasted alright in the end.

Nothing much happened the rest of the day next to some very frustrating internet malfunctions hindering me from using my computer and phone.

For dinner we went out to eat at a Vietnamese street food restaurant; I believe it was tripadvisor certified or something. The staff was decent but they weren’t very fluent in English nor could they speak the Dutch language so communication was kind off problematic. Not trying to be the annoying vegetarian type I still asked them around 4 times what their meat replacers were, they pointed at some kind of special section in the menu which I believed at the time to be their vegetarian alternatives. Unsure what to pick I chose their barbecue shrimp with rice and vegetables. The food tasted great and it was really cheap but something was definitely off about their ”vegetarian” shrimp; it tasted WAY too real, even the texture seemed to perfectly match the one of regular shrimp. I’d maken it clear several times that I wanted a meat-substitute and either they thought I meant fish, they didn’t have a clue at all of what I was implying or they just straight up didn’t care but they still handed me this bowl with extremely realistic looking shrimp. Or maybe I’m just dumb and unaware about the miraculous wonder of extremely realistic meat replacers. If what I ate tonight ends up being real shrimp -which I have no way of varifying- I’d be pretty upset since I’m very dedicated to this whole experiment and the vegetarian lifestyle.

After dinner I ate some leftovers of a vegetarian pizza and went to sleep. I hope I wasn’t conned and this is where I’ll end the blog for now. New upload in 24 hours.

Yeet day 3

Woke up around 12, my whole body felt sore, so I didn’t feel like putting much effort into my breakfast/lunch. I made myself some easy grilled cheese sandwiches (or toasties or whatever its called).

For dinner my parents made an easy, rather Dutch meal. They just prepared some potatoes, white beans stewed in tomato sauce, and a veggie burger. The veggie burger actually tasted pretty decent. It was called a broccoli burger from this brand named SoFine. It was made out of broccoli of course, but not having anything as a meat replacer as I had yesterday, really made me miss having some kind of meat with my meal.

I again got hungry at like 11 pm and was looking for some snacks. I was pretty tired and wasn’t really thinking. I was searching trough the drawers in my kitchen when I stumbled upon this candy. It wasn’t what I was hoping to find but I couldn’t find anything better to eat. I was about to eat this candy when my brain kicked in fast enough and read the back of the package. Apparently it had gelatin in it which is made out of animal meat/bones.

Besides this incident, my day went by pretty smoothly. But for now I am heading off to bed, seeya!

1, 2, 3…….

The third day as being a vegetarian started casually by making myself some sandwiches, just like the first day. I ate some bread with chocolate pasta on it and I also made my lunch already so I could take it with me, because today I had to work at my little part-time job (like a small job for teenagers so they can earn a little money). I work at a local garden center if you are wondering.  So for lunch I had bread as well.

After I came back from work I went to the supermarket to buy a salad for supper. I bought one of those “ready-to-eat” dinner salads that are already complete and ready, you probably know them. They had different sorts of salads and I bought the only vegetarian one they had. It was a salad with lettuce, goat cheese and some other ingredients. It tasked ok, but I probably won’t buy it for a second time.

My vegetarian journey is going well so far and this shows me that I can easily live a life without eating meat.

Day two

Today I woke up at around 12’ish, totally unaware of the plans I had previously made with Luca, we’d agreed to meet up at around 11:30 at our local gym but of course I overslept. I felt quite bad about it since it was my idea and tried to head there asap. I jumped into my gym-clothes and ready to do some grinding I stepped outside my door, then I was suddenly reminded that I was lacking my gym membership-card. I looked in my wallet, not there; I looked in my drawers, not there; I looked in the pockets of my jacket, not there; I looked EVERYWHERE and was unable to find it. Around the time I’d almost given up I received a whatsapp-message from Luca telling me that he was almost done with his workout and that I shouldn’t bother coming anymore since he was going to leave soon.

Trust me, I’m a big, strong, testosterone-filled, goliath of a man but this did make me quite upset :(. In a fit of self-anger and disappointment I decided to make myself some of that heavenly-savoured spaghetti I’d eaten yesterday. Still tasted as amazing as the first time I’d laid my tastebuds on her.

At around 4 PM I agreed to meet up with a friend of mine to head out to a party in the nearby city Nijmegen. I was feeling all fine and dandy but after knocking back some *coughs in innocence* non-alcoholic beverages, I began craving some junkfood. I headed out to a nearby Mcdonald’s and after 7 years of visiting the place I finally tried their veggie chicken burger, to my suprise it did taste like chicken yet it did feel like it was lacking something. Of course I prefer the real thing, but for such a big thing with major importance like our global carbon emission I really can’t be bothered with eating a less-tastier meat substitute. I also had some spicy cheese snacks with my meal.

Another day

It’s Tuesday today, which just automatically makes me hate this day. Just the sound of Tuesday, horrible.

Actually woke up at a reasonable 10:00 AM. Instead of a breakfast I made myself a smoothie and took a quick protein shake to get ready for a workout. Since Tiago ditched me I went with one of my MANY other friends. It was quite a good 100 minute workout at a local fitness centre. Just unable to move my legs.

For lunch I made myself some scrambled eggs, pretty basic with cheese and some spices.

For dinner, we ate oven potatoes, broccoli and a meat replacer. The meat replacer was supposed to taste like chicken and it wasn’t bad at all, just definitely didn’t taste like meat. I would let you know what brand it was from but unfortunately I do not have clue.

Right now its like 1 AM and I am starving so I am going to get myself a quick midnight snack. Goodnight

Day two

Today I started the day by making myself a tosti. Normally I put ham on my tosti but that is not going to happen obviously , so I only put cheese on it. It still tasted great but that slice of ham would have made it a little more tastier.

In the afternoon, I made some musli for lunch and I added some apple and yogurt to it. Pretty simple to make and also very healthy and of course….. vegetarian.

For dinner I had spaghetti with pesto and some arugula and pine nuts, a very delicious recipe which is also really easy to make. I expected that I would really miss eating meat during this month, but so far it is actually going very easily and I am not missing it at all. But it is only the second day of course so who knows how the rest of the month will go.

First day…

To be completely honest, I love my meat u know. But I was dedicated to complete this month without failure, and the first day it went rather easy.

Since we are in de middle of summer vacation my sleep- and eating schedule is all over the place. Today I woke up at 1 pm and just ate my usual breakfast, just some casual bread, nothing special to it. Skipped lunch because I couldn’t really fit another meal in between my 1 pm “breakfast” and dinner at 6. Throughout the day I looked at almost every package there was to see what I could and couldn’t eat, which actually surprised me. Besides like the obvious things I could eat like almost anything.

For dinner, I ate vegetarian Nasi. This was pretty easy to prepare, I just made it as I normally do but left out the meat :). (I will probably post the recipe on Sunday, unless I actually prepare a better dish, which is most likely not the case). Since I couldn’t eat any Kroepoek and I really tasted the lack of meat I added some Vegetarian Saté replacer on my plate, which actually tasted phenomenal.

After dinner, I didn’t really eat anything since I didn’t feel like getting out of bed, goodbye

A smooth start

The first day as a vegetarian went smoothly and easily. I didn’t have to adjust my eating pattern for breakfast and lunch, I just ate bread and that’s easy to keep vegetarian as long as you don’t use meat products as a sandwhich filling, there are enough other fillings for vegetarians such as sprinkles or cheese to put on your bread. However, I still had to partly adjust my dinner. The other members of my family ate potatoes with vegetables and meat and I had vegetarian meat instead of normal meat. The vegetarian meat was made on a basis of soy protein and really looked liked normal meat. The taste was almost exactly like real meat as well and is therefore a perfect meat substitute for vegetarians. During this day I didn’t have to adjust for anything else and for most of the time I was able to continue with my old eating pattern.
