Completed

The end of this day marks the finale of our project. Today is the day each of us has surpassed the month-long journey into vegetarianism. More on that at the end of today’s blog post.

For breakfast I ate some blueberry pie. I watched some youtube, I skipped lunch and for dinner we ate vegetarian feijoada. After dinner I rewatched some episodes of Archer which -mannn I wish they’d just upload the new season already. After Archer I played some Rainbow Six Siege.

I’ve decided to continue my vegetarian diet for a indefinite duration of time. I’m not sure when I’ll stop, but for now I just want to continue doing it. Being a vegetarian really isn’t as hard as some people perceive it to be. Some people talk about their meat consumption like they’re in some kind of heroin clinic. Look, I’m a meat lover, I love everything from steak to haggis. But in no way am I unable to live without eating meat. Eating meat is just a simple choice of life, you don’t ”need” it and neither are you incapable of leading an enjoyable life without it.

As I said, eating meat is just a simple choice of life and it’s enormously easy to live without it. At the end of the day, you do you. If you are so inclined to eating meat and can’t imagine a peaceful life in a world where you can’t pursue that habit, then don’t stop. I really don’t care whether you eat meat or don’t. In my train of thought, the project goal was just wanting to make people aware of the problems meat brings with it, be it moral or environmental. The goal was just to make people aware of the widespread ignorance that’s covering the ugly face of the beloved food item.

Day 30 (Almost there)

Today is my second-to-last day of taking part in this challenge, I believe I’ve been holding up quite good. To be honest I really like the vegetarian lifestyle and am almost certain that I will continue it for some time after this project.

I woke up around 11 AM, that’s pretty early for me. I had some cereal and went to the gym to workout. Afterwards I drank a protein shake and -again- binge watched some South Park.

For dinner I ate some leftovers from yesterday. I’m still very much dreading school.

Day 29

Today was a relatively short day; I woke up around 1PM, made myself some toast. Afterwards I binge watched some episodes of Cutthroat Kitchen and South Park. School’s almost starting and I’m dreading it.

For dinner I made myself some mac&cheese based on a recipe by You Suck At Cooking, it tasted pretty good. Haven’t done much else today.

So that’s it

Day 28

Today I woke up around 2 PM. I made myself a blueberry smoothie, which tasted as regular. I hung out with a friend of mine and later in the evening I made plans with the rest of the participants to hold a vegetarian barbecue; I’d passed by some vegan-bbq meat replacers while working and got curious to how a vegetarian barbecue would taste (or even work lol).

I looked up some vegetarian barbecue recipes, watched some episodes of Voltron LG, ate dinner with my family; it was tomato rice with some feijoada. I also watched The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton -the same guy who played in the film Fight club, which I was religiously. Edward Norton was a pretty good cast for the Hulk, too bad he got replaced later on by Mark Ruffalo.

I must say, I am enjoying taking part in this going-vegetarian-for-a-month experiment. Vegetarian food tastes great and the diet is hugely profitable for the environment. I haven’t had a craving for meat ONCE, and I also like the fact that I don’t feel as involved in the slaughtering of animals for the meat production. I’m thinking about growing this appreciation for vegetarianism into a habit and am considering going semi-vegetarian (also called a flexitarian), but I’ll keep you updated on that.

Further I haven’t got much to say, I’ll be going off to bed now, goodnight!

Day 27

Haven’t really done much today.

Woke up around 9 and went off to work around 10 for a 7-hour shift. After that I watched some youtube videos and when I was done with that I watched Captain America: The first Avenger; pretty decent film.

Other than that my day’s been pretty empty. I’m heading off to bed now, goodnight!

Day 26

Today I woke up around 3 PM, totally blasted from last night. Me and the guy who stayed over went out to get some breakfast; We didn’t have much cash so we decided to pass by a local grocery store and purchase some of those god-like chocolate cakes we’d eaten the previous night. After that we went back to my place and some time after that we parted ways.

I haven’t really done anything else next to watching Iron man 3; In the film Tony Stark kept having ptsd referring to a past event where aliens invaded New York. I had not a single clue about what the hell he was stressing over and after some google searches, I ended up finding out that I wasn’t watching the Marvel MCU films in the right order, which I figured, I just didn’t think it’d make such an impact on the viewing experience. Thus, from now on I’ll be watching all of the Marvel MCU Avengers-themed films in chronological order. Starting with Captain America: The first Avenger.

For dinner I ate some spaghetti with mushrooms and spinach, coated with a creamy sauce. That’s all for now, goodnight.

Day 25

Today I woke up around 12. For breakfast my dad made me a blueberry smoothie, which tasted decent. After that I called up a buddy of mine to swing by my place so that we could gather some supplies for a small get together with friends we planned to have later in the evening. We bought some small chocolate cakes, river bitter lemon, chips, and some dip. Afterwards we went to my place, hung around for a bit and headed out to have our get together; all went fine and dandy.

Later we went back to my place and watched some dumb late-night television programs. There was this horror low-budget short film which we tuned into halfway which depicted some kid planting something -I don’t know, like a tooth or maybe a small bone, into the ground and following the next couple of days the tooth or watchamecallit grew into some kind of living human-plant hybrid being. Then the kid tries to cut one of the roots he’s connected to and when he does so the plant-guy starts screaming in agony, but then he just starts speaking fluent Italian out of nowhere, which made no sense at all. I have a feeling that the film crew told him to spout out some random gibberish so that they could portray that he was talking in some kind of undiscovered plant-language, but the guy just couldn’t be bothered with taking the time to make up some believable-sounding sentences in a made up language so he just decided to speak Italian all the way through hoping that no one would notice, and that the people who’d see the film wouldn’t have any knowledge regarding the existance of the Italian language; which is hilarious. It’s just so comically dumb how they did this, it seemed like they were trying to convey the idea that somehow all plants have a shared-knowledge of the Italian language and use it to communicate. Haha that’d be hilarious.

But then blahdy blahdy blah some weird plant-wendigos show up and try to eat the child but then the plant-guy sacrifices himself to save the kid; all and all, just a weird ending.

Afterwards we had some pizza; I had mozzarella with tomatoes an olives. And that’s all for today, Godspeed.

Day 24

Today I woke up early to pick my mother up at a local airport. Me and my dad drove there, and in the meanwhile we bought some flowers to suprise my mom; at the gate my mother seemed to be very pleasantly suprised by them.

At home my mom showcased us some stuff she’d brought from Portugal; She brought me a zippo (how sweet of her). She also brought this delicious 6-pack of Portuguese almond cakes (now these were a little sweeter :D); Man these things are the best I tell you, I ate like 3/6.

After that I watched some youtube videos and prepared for work. After a 3-hour shift I headed back home, ate dinner with my family -it was feijoada, and afterwards I watched Iron man 2.

I’m tired now and about to head off to bed.

Day 23

Today me and my friend woke up around 1 PM, we haven’t done much so this update will be rather short.

After we woke up we visited the cat I was babysitting and fed him. Afterwards we walked around some stores and bought something to eat. At home I tried to watch Ted 2 with him but he couldn’t be bothered so I just turned it off. Later we went out again and after that we parted ways. After he left I watched Iron man, which I’ve got to say, is a great movie.

Oh yea I almost forgot the part about my ongoing diet; I skipped breakfast, for lunch I had some vegetarian mozzarella pizza and for dinner I ate some of that vegetarian feijoada I’ve mentioned in past posts.

Day 22

I haven’t got a lot of time to type this so, short summary of the day: Woke up around 12, afterwards drank some OJ, made some evening plans with a couple friends of mine. At around 6 I headed out to the Birthday party of my pal Luca together with another friend of mine, as a gift I told him I’d buy him tickets to see the new jumanji film with me, since in the past he’d reffered to the film as one of his favourites. In the evening me and my friend headed out to a beach where we’d made plans with some others. Afterwards me, my friend, and the others decided to crash Luca’s birthday party because why not. Then, after that, my friend and I went back to my place and he decided to crash on my hammock. For dinner I just ate some party snacks.
